Setting goals can be done with this in mind.

Measurable
Attainable

Timing
As missionaries or as in life we need to have a direction, a goal or ambition. We may not see the path ahead but we should desire to lay a course. The Lord gives direction but asks us to lay the course so that we are deeply involved; so that when we look back, we are our effort and we see how the Lord was with us the whole time.
Let's review the elements.
Be Specific
You are need to have measurements on your goal; a date, a time, a measurement. You want to say you want the Lord's help? Show Him the course you have jayed to accomplish the thing that you or the Spirit has prompted.
Measurable
Don't just be vague with your goal but by creating and acknowledging your benchmarks you will have courage to push forward. A wall is built one measurable brick at a time. The builders have a goal, a pace, a vision. Catch the vision that has been given to you.
Attainable
The Lord asks us to run faster than we are able. Going back to the builder, the man works with the measure success in the past to gage how he can improve, go faster or hire more guys, use better resources or revisit how he built the last house.
Building a testimony of the Gospel is the same. Perhaps the first time you built your testimony of Baptism was the house of straw. Later you build a house of sticks. Finally you build it on a firm foundation and of brick. Trial tested your testimony each time.
Realistic
This is some times gets tough. Being realistic wrestles with your reality. Chores, appointments, accidents, and a load of other things try to get in the way. Be realistic. You're a trail blazer in your own life. You are the central player on your story. That said, is your Northern Star the Savior? Are you walking in His footsteps in your own way? The storms that get in your way, are you treating them like a stumbling block or a stepping stone. The whole path of life is yours. The Savior is with you when you call Him in your weakest moments.
Make goals, and be S.M.A.R.T. in your goal making. The Lord will put you in places that you will be honored and will honor your Savior and Father in Heaven. Recognize it and follow it.
Anyways have a great week.
